Who is Ruth M. Miller???

Ruth M. Miller is a tour guide, historian, and author. She is a lady who loves to look back at the past and revel in its beauty and culture. This beauty and culture of the past is the one thing in life that she can not live without; it is what drives her to learn and more importantly what drives her to share this knowledge with the world. This way, they too can experience what the past in the comfort of modern day and appreciate what it has to offer.

Since 1979 Ruth has quite literally been hitting the streets to share what the past has to offer. It is this year that she became a licensed tour guide and became a co-founder of Charleston's first daily walking tours. This was the end to the beginning of what became her passion to inform people and enlighten them about the things that happened where they once stood.

Ruths road to spreading the words of the past did not just end with being a tour guide. She went on to join many organizations like the South Carolina Historical Society, the Avery Institute of African American History and even become a teacher where she would give speeches on what she has learned through her travels. These speeches would go into detail about how the plethora of different religions made their way to the great city of Charleston, South Carolina and how its influence made what this city is today. Some great examples of this are how Meeting street is named after the meeting houses of the Dissenters who did not believe in having churches but rather have places to meet and worship and how Ashley Coopers open door policy is what attracted the many people of different religions to populate this area beginning what is now the lower south of the united states.

With books, Ruth was not only able to spread this insightful information of the past further and wider but she was also able to immortalize what it is that she is so eager to share with the world. Some of the books that she went on to author and coauthor are "A Short History of Charleston", "Charleston Charlie", "The Angel Oak Story", and "Touring the Tombstones".

With being a tour guide, a Historian/teacher, and author, Ruth M. Miller was and still is allowing the history of this land to live on through everyone who can remember and appreciate it. This is who Ruth M. Miller is and until next time... I see dead people.
